A Message from Our Chairperson

Meg Dwyer

As we head into our 23rd year as a chapter, we are facing a radically different world than that of early days. With that, we are finding new ways to stay relevant in a virtual world.

In recent years, we have offered a wide variety of programs-- at no cost to our members! While we are forgoing in-person meetings for the time being, we are offering our members new opportunities for virtual learning and networking.

We’ve turned our informal, theme-focused networking breakfasts into a chance to interact with peers, share some best practices and enjoy a cup of coffee together through video meetings. This year, in 2021, we are focusing on the bid management lifecycle and will be kicking off the series by discussing kick off calls (among other things) on March 18. Each quarter, we’ll focus on a different phase of bid management, offering members a chance to share their best practices and biggest challenges.

We’ll also be sharing other opportunities to learn through our various social media channels as well as here, on our new MemberLeap platform!

We are especially proud to co-sponsor (with the Georgia Chattahoochee and Florida Sunshine chapters) the incredibly successful Southern Proposal Accents Conference (SPAC). Planning for this conference is year-round and the results show. In 2019, we moved from a one-day format to a 1.5-day format, because attendees wanted more! This event packs a big bang for your buck and draws professionals from across the U.S. Unfortunately, as with most conferences, we had to cancel the event in March 2020, but we’re looking at ways to create something memorable for the Fall of 2021 or Spring 2022.

We added some new positions to our board, including regional liaisons, social media chairs and website administrators to better communicate with you-- our membership. Our membership is at an all-time high and we’re about continuing to expand and providing more valuable, enriching, and fun programs throughout the year. If you're interested in getting involved as a committee member for the Carolinas Chapter or as a SPAC volunteer, let us know. We're always looking for new recruits with fresh ideas!

If you are not yet a member of APMP and would like to be, please contact Laura Snyder, our membership chair. If you are already an APMP member living in the Carolinas but have not yet affiliated with the Carolinas chapter, please do so. (Laura can help with that as well.) Increasing our membership across both North and South Carolina will help us provide better, more focused programs and ensure that you receive timely information about upcoming events. Members can also attend programs and conferences at member rates. If you have colleagues who you think would benefit from APMP membership, let us know and we'll be happy to reach out to them.

Finally, we continue to solicit feedback from members about the types of programs you would like to see. If you have ideas for programs, know of potential presenters or would like to speak at an event yourself (either a dinner program or a virtual lunch and learn), please contact Emily Sweitzer, our program chair.

We look forward to another great year for APMP in the Carolinas and hope to see you at our next event!

Meg
